Jiu-Jitsu For Kids
A structured, supervised class where children learn to control their bodies, solve a problem under pressure, and get back up when something does not work. No striking. No shouting. Plenty of hard work disguised as games.

Why It Works
What It Builds
Jiu-jitsu gives a child a problem they cannot shout or rush their way out of. They have to stay calm, work the steps, and accept that sometimes it does not work and they try again. That transfers.
Physically it builds coordination, balance and genuine strength. Socially it builds the habit of looking after a training partner. Quiet kids tend to get louder; loud kids tend to learn when to listen.
It is also useful. A child who knows how to stay on their feet, get back up, and hold a position is far less likely to be a target on a playground.

Safety & Supervision
Coaches are on the mat for the whole class, not on the side. Pairs are matched by size and experience. Anything that carries risk for this age group is simply not taught.
Children are shown how to tap early and, just as importantly, how to release immediately when their partner taps. That rule is not negotiable, and it is the first thing every new child learns.
Classes run Monday to Thursday from 15:00 to 15:45. Sign-in and collection happen at the mat edge so we always know who has left with whom.

Parent FAQ
The kids programme runs from age 6 to 12. Children are grouped by size and experience within the class, so a first-timer is never drilling against someone twice their weight.
Kids classes are supervised the whole way through and there is no striking. Positional work is done at a controlled pace with a coach watching each pair, and children are taught how to tap and how to respond when a partner taps.
For the first class, shorts and a t-shirt with no zips or buttons, plus a water bottle. If they carry on we will help you order a gi. Long hair tied back, nails cut short, no jewellery.
Yes. There is seating at the edge of the mat and parents are welcome to stay for the full class. Most parents watch the first few sessions and then use the hour for the gym upstairs.
